Mr. Miragliotta Conducting in Spain

Here you can see me leading the Orquestra Simfonica del Conservatori Superior de Musica de les Illes Balears, one of the best youth orchestras in Spain. The program opened with Verdi, followed by Ibert’s “Concertino da Camara,” for Alto Sax and Orchestra, and closed with Sibelius 2nd Symphony. This work is a favorite of mine and Verdi’s most performed ouverture, “La Forza del Destino.” Written in 1861, its premiere was delayed nearly a year as upon Verdi’s arrival in Russia in 1861, he found the prima-donna unsatisfactory and refused to proceed unless she could be replaced. It premiered at the ‘Imperial Theatre’ of St. Petersburg and it provoked a hostile demonstration (apparently from a nationalistic faction) at the third performance.

Giuseppe Verdi, son of a innkeeper, was born in Roncole in 1813, and died in Milan in 1901. His talents were first recognized by a local grocer (a music lover) who offered to pay for him to attend the Milan Conservatoire. Unfortunately, due to poor pianoforte skills, he was not accepted and started studying privately. He wrote 28 operas, including Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Don Carlos, Aida, Ottelo, Falstaff, Rigoletto, and Macbeth. Many of his arias are amongst the most popular and loved vocal songs of all time.

  1. Bravo Mr Miragliotta!!! Interpretation of 1st theme by violins was brilliantly innovative. The brass soli 3/4 through was breath taking. Dare I say masterful without sounding like a flatterer? Somebody tell me otherwise; I merely state the fact. I felt moved by the level of your power expressed through the orchestra. I thought that after the accident you would be greatly diminished in your command of an orchestra; I am greatly pleased to see that is definitively NOT the case!! I distinctly note the capacity of your right hand lead as brilliant as ever, with the same expressive depth and finesse that I had come to revere when I had the pleasure of being conducted by you at USC. Please continue your great works: the world of music needs your inspiration; your captivating, indomitable spirit of leadership and musical interpretation!
    • Hi Don. There was something special about you in the orchestra... the high quality of your playing, your demeanor. I guess you could hear what others couldn't. Proof of that is what you wrote in musical terms. It really means a lot to know that you still enjoy my work and to have your support. Thanks!

WHEN I WAS PLAYING TRUMPET IN SIBELIUS 2OND SIMPHONY I WAS VERY EXITED AND REALLY HAPPY MAKE THE MARO'S SOUND! SUPER! THANKS FOR ALL MARIO! CONTINUE DOING THAT WONDERFUL MUSIC! BRAVO!
    • Dear Samuel, I am very proud of the results we achieved together. I just helped the orchestra a bit. It was because you are a really fine trumpet player and because the orchestra was so talented and committed that you played such a memorable concert. I will always remember my time with you all as a very special one.

  7. As a musician, who is now unable to move, I am in awe of your ability to use the function you retain in such a powerful, seductive way. I hope you have a long and fulfilling career introducing the joy of music into the hearts of your audiences. All the best, Mark
  8. Wonderful and magical too. I thank you for sharing this so many can see you fine work. Bravo Mario!
  9. It was amazing to watch you in action. Your soul and your absolute at-oneness with music comes through loud and clear.
  10. This is heart-on-the-sleeve music, Mario. Contagiously emanated and intercepted joy of music-making, between you and the orchestra. And what better "soil" than a youth orchestra to plant such a seed of inspiration and dedication! No wonder they bow in awe to your total command of the music.... Keep doing it and proving "la forza del TUO destino"...in full swing. Bravissimo!
    • Dear Cecilia, it is a joy to know that my feelings and those of the orchestra can be felt several months after the performance. Thanks for taking the time to write such beautiful words! I feel truly flattered!
  11. Bravo, my friend! Not surprising it sounds so awesoming, as I was also playing there... Just kidding! Listening to it, it doesn´t matter if someone is disabled. The strength coming from that performance I´ve seldom felt before. I remember how all the kids (and me) were just enthralled on you making music, on your face and gestures telling them how to play, and how you were able to communicate the inner feeling of the music. For sure, that concert will remain with me for the rest of my life and I feel very fortunate to have been part of it. It´s wonderful I can listen to it when I want!
    • Dear Francesc, I am honored to have had in the orchestra such a fine violist as you. The high technical and artistic level that you possess is only the result of your selfless devotion to perfecting your skills. However, this powerful performance was only possible because of the beauty in the hearts of people like you. I will be forever grateful to you and to the musicians in this wonderful ensemble.
  12. Mario, Thank you so much for posting the video of this concert so that so many of us who weren't in attendance can still savor some of the flavor of that wonderful event, and can still hear the beautiful music you all made that day. As has been said, a beautiful soul will shine through, and yours most definitely does. I'm as proud and honored to call you my friend now as I was back when I was listening to your Masters recital all those years ago. Bravo, Mario! Um grande abraço de sua amiga Laura
  13. Damn mario, you're friggin beast at this goddamn I had no idea
  14. Well, thanks Robert! It is the first time I receive a comment with these cool words. I really love it!
